Grad Requirements

Graduation Requirements

Students graduate from Avalon by successfully satisfying two requirements:

First, students must earn 40 total credits; and,

Second, students must a complete every required standard.

Standards and Credit

Credit

In order to graduate from Avalon, students need to earn at least 40 credits by the end of their senior year.  One earned-credit is the roughly 100 hours of work.

Students earn credit through both projects and seminars.  Students are highly encouraged to record all hours worked on independent projects in Headrush - these hours can serve as the basis for credit award upon completion: the more time a project entails, the more credit a student can earn!

Standards

As a Minnesota public school, Avalon students are required to complete all required standards and benchmarks designated by the Minnesota Department of Education.

Students can earn standards through successful completion of either seminars or projects. While managing all of the requirements can seem overwhelming, each student has an advisor to help - it is the advisor's primary job to help monitor progress and provide guidance throughout the student's high school career.  It is wise to address some standards in each of the core areas (Math, Social Studies, Science, and Language Arts) every year.

Planning Resources

While every path to graduation is different, these general resources can provide some guidance and support. If you have specific questions about your student's plan, please reach out to your student's advisor.
